Renee Day-Roa has been instructing and choreographing dance and exercise classes to children and adults in the east bay for over 23 years. In high school, Ms. Renee danced professionally with a group called "Harambee" all over the Bay Area. Ms. Renee was homecoming queen of Pittsburg High School in 1982 and was crowned Ms. Black Pittsburg California in 1980 and took 3rd place in HalJacksons Talented Teens in 1981 in Sacramento, CA. Her first semi-professional dance troupe called the “African Queens” was started in 1988 in her garage. In August, 2001 Renee formed East County Kids N Motion dance organization along with her regular African Jazzercise groups for adults. Here are various places and schools that she has instructed dance for: the after school program for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District for 6 years, the Pittsburg after school program for two years, Pleasant Hill Recreation, Pittsburg Leisure Services and Hercules Recreation. Currently, she continues to teach dance at the Ambrose Recreation Center in Bay Point for 7 years, Antioch Leisure Services for 5 years and Brentwood Recreation for 3 years. Ms. Renee, for the past 6 years, also volunteers dancing at various schools in the Mt. Diablo School District Special Education classes. The past 3 years and continuing, Ms. Renee especially enjoys teaching preschool children 0-5 years zoo-phonics and cultural dance, through First 5 centers in Brentwood, Antioch, Bay Point. Since March 2007, Ms. Renee started teaching two classes a week through the First 5 centers in Richmond, CA. In December 2007, Ms. Renee started teaching a "Mommy and Me" dance excercise class every Wednesday morning at the Ambrose Recreation Center in Bay Point, CA.
Renee’s tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed as she has received recognition honors from the many highly esteemed organizations throughout the East Bay such as most recently a certificate of recognition award from Senator Tom Torlakson from the California State Senate on November 11th, 2006; The Office of Federal D. Glover, Supervisor District V (5); Ambrose Recreation and Park District for Outstanding Service for The Bay Point Community; NAACP, City of Pittsburg, City of Concord; City of Antioch; Contra Costa County’s Arts & Cultural Society; Black Families Association of the East Bay; Pittsburg Seafood Festival; Multi-Cultural Festival; Concord’s “Kid’s Fest”, etc. just to name a few. Renee has worked with as many as 5 to 200 kids at one time and has always maintained her professional level of patience, personal attention, and firm direction in seeing every routine mold and shape into a true work of art that everyone's proud of.
With lots of hard work and extreme diligence, Renee has built a good reputation dedicated to enriching children’s lives in a positive, healthy and gratifying way. With the business being in the cultural/modern dance field, primarily focusing on youth social and physical well being, Renee is truly a leader, who's nuturing, warm and giving spirit embodies the future goals and mission of any and all organizations she works for.
